Champagne Reception at the Smithsonian

I had the privilege of attending an unofficial Inaugural Ball at the National African Arts Museum at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC on January 19th. [Shout outs go to the Turner/Roche family for hooking us up]. What did I wear you ask? WELL, I hopped my little butt over to Forever 21 (I think I'm a little obsessed) and did a little soul searching till I found the perfect dress. I looked exactly the way I wanted to. Observe:

Strapless Floral Print Dress: $27.80, Forever 21
Black Glitzy Headband: $8.80, Forever 21
Having everyone just KNOW you're from NY: priceless.

On the other hand, my best friend (see below) wore an sequin bow front jumpsuit (also available at our favorite Forever XXI). Only her (and all that jazzzzzzz!)...She looked great though. I wonder how they could tell we were from out of town? Teehee..

As for my sister, she opted for a classic black Jones NY dress, with beading at the bodice and her favorite peeptoe platforms Via Spiga (black satin). We love:

HEY LADIESSSSS:

oooooohhhh, we pop champagne...

Golden Globes 2009 - The Hits!

Kate Beckinsale in cream
J. Mendel mermaid gown

Amy Adams in a black
Oscar de la Renta gown

Debra Messing in a sapphire
Vera Wang halter dress with ruffled layers

Sandra Bullock in a white Dior
one-shoulder ruffled gown

Rumer Willis (this year's Miss Golden Globes
in plum chiffon gown by Reem Acra

Heidi Klum in a fun vintage Galanos
cocktail dress in black & red

I loved ALL of these looks. Just classy, classic, clean lines, beautiful colors, and simple.

I didn't have the heart to post up the "donts" of the Golden Globes because some of the ladies did look fairly good, for the most part, but the dresses they wore were just wrong (See 'Costume' and 'Prom'). Maybe I'll post them later, teeeheee)

Honey, are those my pantyhose you're wearing?...

Sooooooooo -- there is a new trend I'm hearing...mantyhose. Apparently, businessmen, atheletes and even construction workers are wearing this garment underneath their clothes. Ahhh, how I love to see the normal everyday trends of the cross-dressing culture crossover into our homophobic, heterosexual "redblooded" but all of a sudden "metrosexual" American men's lives. Irony, irony.

The article goes on to say that men who are using this product say, "they wear the hosiery for support, comfort and aesthetic purposes." Strange, but not surprising.

This European trend is very slow in crossing over to the States. Designers have already started making Spanx for men, mirdles (girdles for men) so "mantyhose" is just adding on to this trend of "underwear designed to lift, sculpt and suck in that beer belly."

Hey, if its going to make them look better and feel better, I'm all for it. We lie to men about what our bodies really look like (pantyhose, tans, Spanx, push-up bras, makeup, hair color, heels, etc...) It's about they started lying about something new as well. I just better not catch MY man going through my pantyhose drawer. Ew.

If you are interested, you men out there can order your mantyhose online at Luxe Legwear or Comfilon.
